AMSA Alumni Network

The AMSA Alumni Network is a new mentorship platform for current AMSA members to seek out assistance from past AMSA members. This help is not necessarily limited to just questions about the future after UCI -- these alumni can help with navigating life at UCI, offering advice for which professors to take or avoid, or even opportunities at places where our alumni have connections. We have an impressive roster of graduates, ranging from those pursuing Medical school, PA programs, and PT programs. If you are interested in reaching out to any of the following alumni, please fill out the survey linked below. You can either request specific alumni to talk with, or those on the AMSA Executive board will match you with a member that we think can offer you specific help! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us.

My name is Aly and I graduated from UC Irvine in 2019 with a B. S. in Neurobiology and a minor in English. I worked as a Certified Learning Assistant for the Department of Chemistry at UCI. I volunteered in the Emergency Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange. In addition, I was the Treasurer and Fundraising Chair of AMSA during the 2017-2018 school year. I also participated in the Summer Gross Clinical Anatomy Program provided by the faculty of UC Irvine's Medical School. Currently, I am taking a gap year and focusing on finding a research position or healthcare internship as well as studying for the MCAT before applying to medical school.

DANIEL

Undergrad class selection, Research, Clinical experiences in OC, Intramural sports (for fun), GRE, PT school apps, PT job volunteering/jobs, Study tips/spots, Surviving UCI, Life

Hello AMSA fam! My name is Daniel and I graduated from UCI in 2018 with a B.S. in Exercise Sciences. I started as just a Bio Sci major but I chose to specialize in Exercise Sciences because I was always interested in exercise as medicine and now I am pursuing a career in Physical Therapy. I was an AMSA member for two years, and was Social Chair for the second year. Additionally, as an undergrad I was a research assistant at PERC, volunteer at KFA, and played several intramural sports. I am currently taking a gap year in which I worked as a PT aide while applying to PT school. I look forward to speaking to and hopefully helping y’all!

JASMINE

Undergraduate class selection, Volunteering experiences, Leadership and interviewing advice, GRE tips

My name is Jasmine and I graduated with a B.S. in Biology from UCI in 2018. During my time at UCI I had been involved with various extracurricular activities  and leadership experiences through organizations on campus, volunteering in the Child Life and Physical Therapy department at the UCI Medical Center, and as a General Assistant in the Division of Continuing Education. I am currently taking a gap year working as a Physical Therapy Aide Supervisor before I enter a Physical Therapy program. I would like to specialize in pediatrics while I am in PT school.

GRACE

Study strategies for college classes, Picking your classes, Medical school application process, Clinical experiences in Irvine

Hello AMSA friends! My name is Grace, and I graduated from UCI with a B.S. in Human Biology in March 2021. Believe it or not, I was actually accepted into UCI as a drama major, but soon discovered that I wanted to pursue the pre-med path. While I was at UCI, I worked in a Cognitive Science research lab, was Medical Assistant Intern at an Urgent Care/Family Practice, worked as a certified learning assistant in the areas of Biology & Chemistry, and spent all for years of undergrad dedicated to AMSA! I am currently taking a couple of gap years so that I can strengthen my med school application and re-take the MCAT. Right now, I am teaching Algebra II to high school students at the high school I used to attend (I love it!), in addition to a few other responsibilities I have at the school.

NICK

Undergraduate class selection, Third year Bio Sci major selection, Research, Graduate School, Medical School, UCI Medical Center Volunteering, Networking at UCI

Hey everyone, my name is Nick and I graduated from UCI in 2018 with a B.S. in Exercise Science. I came into UCI knowing I was going to be pre-med and started as a chemistry major. However, the course load of being a pre-med chemistry major became overwhelming and I decided to switch to Biological Sciences my second year in order to make my class load go down. In my third year I decided to switch into the Exercise Science major and had two incredible years in that major. During my time at UCI I volunteered at the UCI Medical Center, did mTBI research under Dr. Hicks and Dr. Small and was the Publicity Chair for AMSA my last year at UCI. During my gap year after taking the MCAT twice I realized being a physician was not really for me and turned my focus to working in the healthcare industry. I am now currently completing my M.S in Biotechnology Management here at UCI. My goals are to be either a project manager or a healthcare consultant after my time at UCI. I look forward to meeting you all!

ELIZABETH

Classes, Clinical experience, PA vs MD vs NP, AMSA, Life in general

Hey AMSA Members! My name is Elizabeth , and you can call me Elizabeth or Ellie. I graduated from UC Irvine in the Fall of 2017 with a B.S. in Public Health Science and a Certificate in Medical Anthropology. I am currently aspiring a career as a Physician Assistant (PA), but I started out pre-med upon entering college. It was through my numerous clinical exposures and overall experiences from AMSA that have led me to switch career goals in becoming a PA. Outside of AMSA, I also participated in PACT, Liwanag, UCI Med Center volunteering, Kappa Alpha Theta, volunteer tutoring, church service, and working part-time or interning in a medical clinic.

After I graduated, I finished pre-requisite classes for PA school, took the GRE, worked on PA apps, and earned an AA degree in Health Sciences from IVC while working three jobs. Now as I wait to hear back from PA schools, I continue to work as a neuro-ophthalmology technician and registered behavior technician, volunteer tutor a homeless kid, and am a member of MKBU's Pre-PA Mentorship Club. In my free time, I enjoy running, playing/watching sports (tennis, football, golf, basketball), watching movies & tv shows, working on art projects, and spending time with friends & family.

AMSA has always had a special place in my heart so I'm thrilled I get the opportunity to give back as an alumni to be a mentor to all of you! Best of luck on your journey at UCI:) #zotzotzot

JULIANNA

Classes to avoid in undergrad and alternative classes to take, Applying to on an campus position

My name is Julianna  and I graduated from UCI in Spring 2019 with a B.S. in Public Health Sciences. I was a transfer student so my time at UCI was rather short, but I really enjoyed my two years and miss them already. I participated in AMSA as the community service chair and organized the free Clinic at the Park as well as the Relay for Life. At UCI, I was a lab assistant at Thompson Lab for Huntington’s Disease Research and also an intern for a quarter at Regent’s Point elderly nursing home. I am currently applying to scribing positions in Chino Hills, my hometown, and even some in Irvine. I will be taking a gap year to prepare myself for the GRE and gain clinical experience hours to become a more competitive candidate for Physician Assistant school.
