About Us
AMSA @ UCI
Welcome to the University of California Irvine AMSA undergraduate chapter's official website. We are part of a national student-run organization of physicians-in- training dedicated to helping those interested in healthcare through preparatory course discounts, health professional speakers, resources through internships and volunteer/shadowing opportunities, a mentor/mentee program with AMSA medical students, and community service. If you are interested in joining our organization feel free to complete an application found in the Membership Forms section. We welcome you to explore more about us through our website or through social media, and if you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
The American Medical Student Association (AMSA), with a half-century history of medical student activism, is the oldest and largest independent association of physicians-in-training in the United States. Today, AMSA is a student-governed, national organization committed to representing the concerns of physicians-in-training. With a membership of more than 62,000 medical students, premedical students, interns, residents, and practicing physicians from across the country, AMSA continues its commitment to improving medical training and the nation's health.
How is AMSA different from other organizations? When you join AMSA, you become part of a vital force of future physicians who believe that patients and health professionals are partners in the management of health care, and that access to high-quality health care is a right and not a privilege. At AMSA, activism is a way of life. Student idealism is transformed into meaningful public service, innovation, and institutional change.
Our Mission

As an aspiring physician, I hope to one day work as a cardiologist, primary care physician, or podiatrist, but I’m still open to other options if I enjoy them! AMSA has given me the opportunity to learn from professionals, medical students, and hands-on events in order to further gain insight to the field as well as encouraged me to be a more competitive applicant. Beyond professional support, AMSA has given me the chance to meet open and kind like-minded individuals who support each other on their way to meeting their goals and I know it can do the same for you!

My main goal is to pursue a career in medicine, specifically as a radiologist. My time in AMSA has provided me with countless opportunities to learn more about medicine, whether through networking, lectures from guest speakers, or interactive workshops. Being a part of the 2023-24 AMSA board has allowed me to also contribute to helping like-minded students achieve their goals.

As an aspiring physician, I seek to help people of all backgrounds in the field of neurology or cardiology, although I am keeping my options open in case a new interest in medicine comes up. Through my first year with AMSA, I got the opportunity to understand how medical school works, as well as how the different moving parts (ex. MCAT, LORs) play massive roles in building a portfolio. I’ve also gotten to meet so many like-minded individuals, and they have really helped me build a strong network that I can rely on.

My career aspiration is to become a physician, hopefully specializing in anything related to the brain. AMSA helps me reach this goal by providing me with opportunities to learn more about the pre-med track, such as when to take the MCAT, community service opportunities, and panels with medical students. AMSA also helped me gain a community with fellow UCI pre-med students, which encourages me to continue on this path and survive pre-med classes!

I aspire to pursue a career in either dermatology or pediatrics, and being in AMSA has truly helped me feel more confident in going down this career path. Not only does this club give me the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops and hear about other students’ experiences with the pre-med journey, it also provides a space to build a community of fellow pre-med students that can support each other. Having access to these valuable resources and to this sort of connection is vital to persevering through this somewhat challenging path and I want to help others feel supported as well!

As a Pre-Med student, my career aspiration is to become a physician, hoping to specialize in Pediatrics. AMSA helps me with reaching this goal by providing me with great, unique opportunities to learn and experience more about certain gatherings involving fellow pre-med students, with speakers to help with things such as when to take the MCAT, Community Service Opportunities, and even specific Panels including Medical Students Guest Speakers. AMSA also helped me gain a lot of experience in regards to clinical skills workshops and panels, as it lets us peers get insight on fundamental concepts or tasks that will be used within the Pre-med route!

With the goal of becoming a physician in mind, AMSA has consistently provided excellent resources in both the application and development process and the wellness department. From hands-on experience with medical students to MCAT and pre-medical course-planning workshops, AMSA @ UCI has allowed me to explore many of the amazing opportunities the medical field offers and has only furthered my passion for continuing on this career path. The amazing people I’ve gotten to meet and befriend, and the incredible network of doctors and medical students I’ve been able to spend time with highlight just how valuable AMSA can be for anyone considering a career in healthcare!

My career aspiration is to work in healthcare as a medical provider to help people and improve the quality of care. AMSA has been an amazing part of my journey because here I get to meet so many awesome people that share the same goals and passions with me. These people have shared their stories and journeys that inspire and encourage me to work harder to achieve my goals. For me, the best way to learn is to learn from others. I am so grateful for the opportunity to meet and learn from all the people at the events hosted by AMSA.

As a CS Premed student, I aspire to become a physician-scientist. One of the most crucial aspects of reaching any goal, in my opinion, is the community. Due to my background as a CS premed student, I feel that it’s particularly important for me to reach out and find a community of similar-minded people outside of class. I hope through AMSA, I am able to persevere and engage with other premedical students in this challenging journey.
